Farooq has made great progress!
posted November 22, 2009

Farooq is a twelve year old boy studying in the special section at Amar Jyoti School. He has Muscular Dystrophy and is wheelchair bound. He has a pleasant personality and is regular in coming to school. He is enthusiastic and likes learning new things.
Farooq comes from an economically underprivileged family. His father is a mechanic and his mother is a home maker. However, they are motivated to send Farooq to school and help him in everyway they can. They attend PTA meetings whenever they are able to.
Farooq was average in his studies when he joined Amar Jyoti. This was because he lacked motivation. His basic problem was in comprehending his readings. He was average in all of his subjects but he needed individual attention. He was also a little reserved and did not communicate much with his peers.
Farooq has shown improvement in academics after getting individual attention from his teachers. He has made sincere efforts as well. He is performing at a 4th grade level level in Math and Hindi and at a 3rd grade level in English.
Farooq is very good at drawing. His teacher appreciates his paintings and sketches. Since he is wheel chair bound, most of his sports activities involve use of his hands. He is enthusiastic and likes to get involved in most of the classroom activities.
Farooq has shown constant improvement in all of his subjects. He has also become more mature and sincere towards his work. His social skills have also improved. He holds potential to do much better over time!
Thank you Jonathan, Padmaja, Durlabh, Rashmi, Sabrina, Smeeta and Digvijay for coming together and supporting a year of tuition for Farooq and allowing him to continue his studies! It’s true that small gifts really can have big impacts!
