Dear padmaja, Durlabh, Rashmi, Sabrina, Smeeta, Digvijay, and Jonathan,

Manish, a previous Amar Jyoti student and basketball star, has recently returned to the school and is now coaching their basketball team!

Manish is 20 years old and completed 8th grade at Amar Jyoti School in early 2006.

Manish’s parents identified him as a slow learner and enrolled him at Amar Jyoti in 2000. Having been identified as a slow learner, Manish received special attention from his teachers and other staff members. Apart from helping him cope with the regular curriculum and keep pace with other children his age, a special effort was made to identify his interests

Manish showed special interest in outdoor sports and especially in the game of basketball. His coach encouraged him to take up this sport seriously and Manish delivered the results!

Following are his achievements over the past few years of playing basketball:

• 2009: Team member of the winning team at the National Level Basketball Championships held in Pondicherry, India.
• 2006: Team member of the runner-up team at the National Level Basketball Championships held at Army Public School, New Delhi.
• 2005: Team member of the winning team at the National Level Basketball Championships help at Jabalpur, India.
• 2004: Team member of the runner-up team at theNational Level Basketball Championships held at Bareilly, India.

While it has been 3 years since Manish finished at Amar Jyoti School, his association with his teachers and other staff members still remains. For Manish, Amar Jyoti is his extended family!

Had it not been for the efforts of Amar Jyoti, children like Manish Kumar would not have the opportunity to make the best use of their inherent talents. Today, Manish is a basketball coach at Amar Jyoti School, helping children with physical and mental abilities learn and enjoy the game.

While he has not thought much about what he wants to do in the long-term, his immediate focus is to select and train a new Amar Jyoti basketball team!

There are several children like Manish who need the special education that’s provided at Amar Jyoti School. You can help such a talented child build a brighter future for him or herself!
